Hey everyone, it's your favorite funny person here to talk about AAU basketball teams in Richmond VA. I mean, I don't really know much about basketball, but I know enough to make fun of these ridiculous team names. Here are some of my favorites:
The Richmond Gators
Oh boy, I can just imagine the fierce competition on the court when the Richmond Gators are playing. I mean, who wouldn't be intimidated by a reptile with a basketball in its mouth?
The Central Western Heat
First of all, I didn't realize there was an AAU basketball team that represented the entire Central and Western regions of the country. Second of all, the Heat? Really? You couldn't come up with something better than that? I feel like that's just setting yourself up for disappointment when you realize you're not actually on fire.
The Virginia Venom
Oooh, watch out for the Virginia Venom. They're so deadly, they might just give you the flu! But seriously, I don't know if naming your team after a potentially lethal substance is the best idea. What if someone gets stung by a bee during a game and has an allergic reaction? Do you want that kind of liability?
The Henrico Jaguars
Okay, I have to admit, the Henrico Jaguars has a nice ring to it. But there's just something so funny to me about the image of a jaguar trying to play basketball. Like, do they use their claws to dribble? How do they even hold the ball with their paws? I have so many questions.
The Chesterfield Lady Hornets
I'm all for female empowerment and everything, but the Chesterfield Lady Hornets? That's just too much of a mouthful. Plus, it kind of sounds like they're trying to be both sweet and aggressive at the same time. Like, "yeah we're ladies, but we'll still sting you like a hornet!"
The West End Blaze
The West End Blaze? More like the West End Mildly Warm. I mean, come on, Blaze is such an intense word. If you're going to go for a fiery name, at least make it sound like you mean business.
The Hanover Hoopsters
Okay, I have to give the Hanover Hoopsters some credit. It's a cute name, and it rolls off the tongue nicely. But let's be real, no one wants to mess with a team called the Hoopsters. That just sounds like a group of middle-aged dads who take their pick-up games way too seriously.
The Mechanicsville Mustangs
The Mechanicsville Mustangs? More like the Mechanicsville Slowpoke. I don't know about you guys, but when I think of mustangs, I think of sleek, speedy horses. These guys would probably get outrun by a tortoise.
The Powhatan Raptors
The Powhatan Raptors? More like the Powhatan Emus. I mean, what's so scary about a raptor? They're extinct! Unless you're going up against a team of velociraptors, I don't think you have much to worry about.
